New Blog

Filed under: Oracle — Jonathan Lewis @ 9:19 am UTC Nov 15,2012

I’ve just discovered that Connor McDonald has had a blog for ages, and I hadn’t noticed because it’s not getting accumulated on the Oak Table site. So, for a brief period only, here’s the URL.

  1. Hi Jonathan,

I amwondering, after going on Connor McDonald’s blog, if the book “expert pl/sql practices” is freely available for download given it is mentioned on a slide in his “feb12_upgrade_disaster.pdf” document ?
I get in touch with you because I did not see any email on his website.

    Thanks in advance

    • Jean-Michel,
It may be freely available as a download, but I doubt if it is legally available as a free download.
If you want a legal link, it comes from Apress: http://www.apress.com/9781430226680/

According to the banner on that page, Apress currently has an offer of 50% off all eBooks until 31st Dec.

      • Thank you very much Jonathan for your answer and for mentioning the Apress offer.

By the way, I am wondering if you could give me some websites ( or perhaps you already studied the subject ) where I could understand what is taking place in the v$sql / v$sqlarea / v$sqltext when an application server sends a database request to oracle : how long the query remains in memory ? is it possible to identify one query in particular at a specific time even though it has been submitted many times and oracle seems to identify the request once and updates some data then ( executions … ) ? … ).
I do not know if I am clear enough but it is about the different views someone can search into to pinpoint a specific sql that seems, for example, to use too much temporary space.
        Thanks in advance.
