It’s the end of the year and time for a retrospective of some sort so I was thinking of listing the top 10 most popular pages on my blog, but Connor McDonald beat me to it, so I decided to see if I could remember all the countries I’d visited since starting to work with the Oracle software, and here’s the list in alphabetical order:
Antigua Australia Austria Belgium Bosnia Brunei Bulgaria Canada China Croatia Czech Republic Denmark Egypt Estonia Finland France Germany Greece Hungary Iceland India Indonesia Ireland Israel Italy Japan Latvia Lithuania Malaysia Netherlands New Zealand Norway Poland Portugal Romania Russia Scotland (see comment 7) Serbia Singapore Slovakia Slovenia South Africa Spain Sweden Switzerland Thailand Tunisia Turkey UAE (United Arab Emirates) USA Wales (see comment 7)
A few of these were holidays rather than work, and I may have forgotten a couple, so if you’ve seen me in your country and it’s not on the list let me know.
The list can be a bit of a nuisance, I had to list “all the countries you’ve visited in the last 10 years” for both the US and Russian visas: the US form only allowed for 5 countries and the Russian one for 40; and the US expected me to list EVERY visit, with dates and city!
Did you accidentally truncate the list? It stops at ‘M’! United Arab Emeriates? Singapore? I pretty sure you have been to Slovenia!
My wife Sue has a similar problem with the US, Russian and other visas – and her list of countries visited is smaller than yours. Not by much though…

I don’t know how it happened but the bottom 20-ish went missing in transit. Now fixed.

I know you’ve been to the United States so your list looks to be accidentally truncated.
The dangers of committing outside of a logical transaction 🙃

I’m sure I’ve spotted you in my neck of the woods a couple of years ago.

Hi Jonathan,
you have also visited Slovakia (Bratislava), I guess it was in 2006. It was a two or three day seminar provided by Oracle University Slovakia.

Any reason why South America is not present in the list ? you should come to Argentina if you like good food, wine and landscapes :-)

Bertran,
The main reason would be that no-one has asked me to do any consultancy work in S.A.
I nearly flew in for one of the OTN tours a couple of years ago – but I developed a terrible ear-ache about 90 minutes before the plane was due to take off and didn’t dare board in case I ended up with a burst ear-drum on landing. I did manage to deliver a couple of my presentations through Skype, though.

“EVERY visit, with dates and city!”
Wow, I’ll never be able to get to the USA within the next 10 years, because I simply can’t remember every city and date. Perhaps I should start to take notes now.
Even then there would easily be more than 50 cities since I like short trips for theaters, museums …

Dubai is not a country, it’s just a city/emirate in UAE

Andrey,
Thanks for that – now removed from the list. I nearly made the same mistake with Sabah and Sarawak until I checked them and found they were states of Malaysia. Hong Kong was another oddity – a colony when I first visited, and a Special Administrative Region when I last visited.
On the plus side your comment made me realise I should check Wales and Scotland, and they’re both countries – so that’t about 50 items that should have been on my USA visa application, but it does mean I’ve increased the list to 51 countries.
