This is a list of all articles I’ve written that talk about the mechanisms and diagnostics of parallel execution. Each entry has a date stamp and a short note of the contents and articles are generally listed most-recent first.
The list starts with link to an older note listing a number of MOS notes and a few articles by other authors.
I am currently working backwards through my entire blog adding articles to catalogues as I go, so any individual catalogue may grow very slowly.
- List of MOS notes and a selection of blog notes from other authors (to be checked)
- Parallel default (Sept 2022): a little test and explanation showing “parallel default” and “parallel 1 / noparallel” are not the same thing.
- Quiz Night 31 (March 2017): Why is this simple statement not updating using parallel DML? (The answer is the same even in 19.11.0.0)
- Parallel query ? (May 2015): When is a parallel query not “parallel enough”.
- Parallel Execution Plans (Oct 2013): The first installment of a series on reading parallel plans
- Parallel Execution – 2 (Oct 2013): The data creation script for the sample query and plan
- Parallel Execution – 3 (Oct 2013): Forcing a particular plan – some parallel hints (11g version)
- Parallel Execution – 4 (Feb 2014): Mechanics, including Bloom filters and buffering.
- Parallel Execution – 5 (March 2014): Includes a graphic representation of hash/hash distribution
